For those of you unfamiliar with Mr. Stappler (craig), he has two distinguishing features. The first is his association to the totally intuitive training system, and the dynamic BCBR power duo of the same name. The second is a thick pair of mutton-chop sideburns, cultivated over several years that I have known him (I think he was clean shaven when we first met over two years ago).
So it only beacame logical that some dude in yesterdays race barking orders to "Burns" was refering to craig. Weird, but logical (I am not really sure why he was riding behind us, order craig to take the left line, watch out for that log...) Weirder things have happened this week, so we all had a laugh last night and calked it up to bike racing intricacies.
Then today, it happens again. "Take the low line burns"
Whatever. We burn-inated that dude and his teamate pretty fast on what was a solid comeback from yesterdays jibba-jabba. Pat and Geoff (team alias: there's no 'I' in 'quit') were joking around - turns out they passed the same team on the trails, and the guy was still barking at burns - turns out the team is named after one of their members, a certain Mr. Burns.
Highly unusual, but seriously funny. There was nothing funny about todays course - probablly 40km of the funnest singletrack, flowing over exposures and short carvy climbs, then some road sections and more good singletrack to bring it home in ~75km. We finnished 6th and were happy with a really solid race start-finnish, but there was a grin on my face everytime we touched the trail.
